A Classic Block Series

Blocks #1 and #2

I recently started a series of tutorials on some of the classic blocks that many of us know and love – but maybe don’t often actually use them in projects. I hope to show you some “modern” uses for these classic blocks, as they are accessible to a novice quilter, yet can be fun to layout in new ways that might keep a seasoned quilter interested. There is a such rich history in quilting, and in those quilters who came before us, that I can’t help but feel a connection – maybe you feel the same and have some love for these traditional beauties!

My intent is to do a different block every month, for a year. I’ve now done two: the friendship star and the churn dash block. Please click on the links below to go directly to the individual tutorials, or you can go to www.bluebeaglequilts.com and click on Classic Block Series in the top menu. For each classic block, I include a block diagram, a cutting chart to make different sizes, a coloring sheet, a full tutorial with pictures and at least one project or quilt idea.

Let me know what you think of this series – if you have comments or suggestions, I would love to hear them!
